I am not able to migrate to tw3 sync with wingtask from tw2. after following all instructions in the migration guide, initial task sync returns the below error:*
Thanks for the detailed report I was able to query the sync server and figure out what happened.
Your data on the WingTask sync server is healthy, your task history migrated over cleanly with no corruption. The 410 Gone error is happening because in Taskwarrior 3 your local Taskwarrior data keeps track of every time you sync and when you sync it will ask the server “give me what comes after version 8229ef96-…”, and the sync server is saying, “I don’t know about 8229ef96-…”.
How did this happen? Two most likely cases:
You used the “Delete my Data” feature to clear your data. (and as of this writing on 2026-08-26 I haven’t added clear instructions that you should also clear the local sync state, which I will do shortly).
You synced previously with a different Taskchampion Sync Server.
Fix:
Export your tasks (keeps all your data safe): task export > ~/tasks_backup.json
Back up and remove your local database: cp ~/.task/taskchampion.sqlite3 ~/.task/taskchampion.sqlite3.bak rm ~/.task/taskchampion.sqlite3
Double check ~/.taskrc has the current WingTask sync credentials from Settings → Taskwarrior Sync.
Re-import your tasks: task import ~/tasks_backup.json
Sync: task sync
Confirm the sync in the WingTask web UI; log in and check that your tasks appear there. This is the real confirmation it worked, since it’s reading independently from the server (not just your local database reflecting itself back).
Once you’ve confirmed everything is there, you can delete the backup files (~/tasks_backup.json, ~/.task/taskchampion.sqlite3.bak) if you no longer want them, or keep them a while as a safety net.
